John-Michael Dumais, Executive Director of MICAS
John-Michael, a native of Keene, graduated valedictorian from Keene High School in 1978. He went on to attend Harvard College, where he majored in Psychology and Social Relations.
During 2004-5, John-Michael was President of the Monadnock Freedom Forum, based in Keene NH, which has sponsored and produced a number of community education events relating to citizen governance, election reform, local currencies, media reform, and many other topics. He was organizer of the Monadnock Community Currency Project (MC2P), a study group which focused on alternative currency and exchange networks and brought presenters to the area. He is creator and host of Oasis Forum radio program on WKNH 91.3FM in Keene (currently morphing in “The Future Is Now” podcast - stay tuned), featuring interviews with local, regional and national guests on issues of personal, social, economic, and environmental sustainability. John-Michael has studied at Schumacher Institute and attended peak oil conferences. He is a consultant in the area of program development, training, and community-building. Locally he has been involved in developing a multi-stakeholder collaborative for autism education. Working with Dr. Bill Spady and HeartLight International (an offshoot of Neale Donald Walsch’s work), he helped organize and facilitate a ten-day Collaboratory for twenty-five educators, trainers, and business people, where models and programs for community-based learning centers were developed. As a consultant to The International Quality Leadership Institute in Chicago, he has helped develop models, surveys, and train-the-trainer programs for the Youth-Centered Community (YC2) initiative. As a consultant to Amherst County (VA) Youth Services, he developed The Future Options Project, a comprehensive community program for youth empowerment through adult-youth partnerships. John-Michael as been a training consultant to the US Office of Personnel Management in Boston, a trainer and teacher of trainers with The Monroe Institute, Faber, VA, a curriculum consultant and writer for WGBH's NOVA secondary school educational outreach program. He is a student of Integral studies based on the work of Ken Wilber.
During his tenure as Director of Oak Meadow School in Putney, VT, an alternative distance learning K-12 school and 6-12 Internet school, John-Michael supported teachers, families, and students around the country, and taught middle and high school courses. He is author of the book about parent-teen communication, Straight From the Heart (Oak Meadow Publications, 2001).
